Fashion for Paws, the preeminent fashion event benefiting the Humane Rescue Alliance, was all about the dogs as man’s best friend walked the runway alongside human companions. The goal for the 12th annual fashion show – hosted by Carson Kressley of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” fame – was to raise awareness of the programs and services the Humane Rescue Alliance provides.
Prior to the event, Fashion for Paws raised $365,643 with additional funds earned during the night. Fashion for Paws co-chair Teresa Del Rosso and her husband, Mark, raised $30,000 making them the top fundraisers for the event.
“I love this organization because we help over 60,000 homeless animals in need of help and care every year,” said Teresa Del Rosso. “And I’m a huge animal lover and without these funds, we couldn’t support all the animals every year that need our help.”
For Joi Sheffield, it was her fifth year hitting the runway for Fashion for Paws with her chocolate lab, Gentleman Jack.
“This is just my event, my philanthropy for the year, every year,” said Sheffield. “And my dog loves it and my friends come and support me, so it’s a good thing, I have a good time.”
At the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C., fashionable event-goers noshed on appetizers and drinks during the VIP reception prior to the dinner and fashion show. After the show, attendees were ready to party as Fashion for Paws fell on the same night as Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby.
“Tonight is going to be fun,” Del Rosso said. “It’s Cinco de Mayo! We’re going to party!”
